The Tenuta Settecieli Toscana Scipio 2013 is exquisitely blended from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Peppery spice on the nose along with blackberry liqueur like fruit and cigar box spice. Fine herbs, minty notes. A big and chewy wine with a lot of tannins. With a juicy palate and tart finish, this wine pairs well with cured meat, beef, lamb, veal and poultry. Pure Cabernet Franc, only made in exceptional years. Only 3750 bottles. 91 point rating.
Barbaresco 1989, Gaja
Angelo Gaja, a legend in his lifetime and the producer of the Gaja Barbaresco 1989 which is expertly blended from 100 percent Nebbiolo grape to provide a bouquet of red fruit. Dry with a satisfying palate, this outstanding red wine is an excellent choice to accompany beef, lamb, game and pasta cuisine.
Langhe Sperss 1997, Gaja
The Gaja Langhe Sperss 1997 is expertly blended from the Nebbiolo grape to provide an earthy and fruity aroma. A superb Sperss, with refined aromas of minerals, flowers, berries and just a hint of mint. Full-bodied and powerful, with chewy tannins and a long berry, cherry and mineral aftertaste. Impressive structure. This red wine is an excellent choice to accompany beef, lamb, game and pasta cuisine. Best after 2005. 2,000 cases made. Gaja was never a great sustainer of the thesis that Barbaresco/Barolo should be 100 per cent Nebbiolo. In the late 1990s, Gaja decided to re-classify his Barolos, Sperss and Conteisa, as Langhe Nebbiolo DOC, which permits an addition of 15% of other grapes recommended or authorized for the province of Cuneo (could be Barbera or Cabernet Sauvignon; Gaja claims the former).

The 1990 Gaja Langhe Sperrs now re-classified as Gaja Barolo Sperrs is expertly blended from 100% Nebbiolo grape to provide an aroma of roses, black fruits, smoke and a hint of tar. Outstanding, full-bodied with a moderately tannic finish, this wine is an excellent choice to accompany beef, lamb, game and pasta cuisine.
Barolo La Serra 1997, Marcarini
The Marcarini Barolo La Serra 1997 is expertly blended from the Nebbiolo grape. Full-bodied with soft tannins and a fruity, pretty aftertaste. Notes of strawberry, mineral and plum, with hints of mint. Up-front, delicious, well-balanced and round with a velvet texture and fresh acidity, this wine is an excellent choice to accompany beef, lamb, game and pasta cuisine. Better with bottle age.
Barolo Castiglione 1995, Oddero
Featuring a ruby red colour with light garnet reflections, the Oddero Barolo Castiglione 1995 is expertly blended from the Nebbiolo grape to provide wonderfully deep fruit aromas that mingle with smoke, tar and wet earth in this dense but elegant Barolo. Ripe but not overdone, subtle oak accents shine the spotlight and ripe fruit. Tannins are firm but also ripe and sweet. With a long-lasting palate, this wine pairs well with beef, lamb, game and pasta.
Ferrari Perlé, Fratelli Lunelli
Pale golden highlights adorn its straw yellow colour, the Lunelli Ferrari Perlé is expertly blended to produce a bouquet of Reinette apples, citrus fruits and almond blossom, with hints of toast-like notes. Unmistakable fruity, elegant and harmonious, this wine produces an extraordinarily fine and persistent perlage. It is an excellent choice to accompany seafood dishes.
Franciacorta Alma Cuvee, Bellavista
Straw yellow in colour with greenish highlights and a fine, continuous bead, the Bellavista Brut Franciacorta Alma Cuvee is expertly blended to produce a complex bouquet of ripe fruit to fresh flowers, vanilla and pastry. Mineral, fresh and vibrant, this wine has a long-lasting, harmonious finish. It is an excellent choice as an aperitif or to accompany appetizers, mild and soft cheeses, lean fish and shellfish dishes. The blend consists of Chardonnay, Pinot Nero, Pinot Biano.
Giulio Ferrari Riserva 2007, Fratelli Lunelli
Brilliant yellow with golden highlights, the Fratelli Lunelli Giulio Ferrari Riserva 2007 is expertly blended with Chardonnay. Elegant and well-balanced, with velvety, well-knit fruit that is redolent of vanilla, acacia honey and freshly-mown hay, combined with attractive floral notes. Well-balanced, warm with a concentrated structure and elegant tannins, fruity sensations and fascinating spicy hints with a long-lasting palate. This wine is best served at 18° C, it is an excellent aperitif and pairs well with aged cheese, game and roasts.
