Bolgheri Superiore 1998, Grattamacco
A Bordeaux-style wine in Tuscany, currently 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 25% Sangiovese, the Bolgheri Superiore 1998 is hailed among the best in Bolgheri. With notes of juicy blackcurrant, cedar wood and wild forest strawberries, mixed with delicate nuanced of rosemary and pepper. Beautifully balanced and harmonic, with a silky soft and complex structure. Pair well wtih beef and venison.
Toscana Olmaia 1998, Tenuta Col D’Orcia
Deep and dense, with shining purple reflexes, the Toscana Olmaia 1998, Tenuta Col D’Orcia is blended with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. It reveals notes of blackberries, raspberries, blueberry, and black licorice. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with a perfect balance between fruitiness and tannins. Toscana Olmaia 1998 is a perfect accompaniment to red meats, game and mature cheeses.
Toscana Solengo 1997, Argiano
With a deep dark garnet colour, the Toscana Solengo 1997, Argiano is a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon with a tiny dosage of Syrah. Rich and thick, with wonderfully complex aromas of berry, tobacco and flowers this wine is full in body, with a complement of finely polished yet velvety tannins.
Toscana Solengo 1998, Argiano
An outstanding Solengo, the Toscana Solengo 1998 has violet and berry aromas, with hints of toasted oak. Its color is intense, deep ruby to purple. Medium to full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, fruity finish. An intriguing blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot & Sangiovese aged in 100% new French oak for 16 months prior to bottling. Pairs well with beef, veal, lamb and cured meat. 91 point rating.
Toscana Solaia 1999, Antinori
Toscana Solaia 1999 features a dark color with intense aromas of blackberries and fresh herbs, such as basil, with a hint of eucalyptus. Full-bodied, with extremely well-polished tannins and a long, long finish. A tight and racy young wine that needs time to come into its own. Beef stews, braised dishes and casseroles, is best served with this wine. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. Best after 2005. 91 point rating.
Toscana Solaia 1997, Antinori
Featuring a dark ruby color, the Toscana Solaia, Antinori 1997 has extremely ripe raisin and spice aromas. Full-bodied and very chewy, with loads of polished tannins and a long, long finish. Pairs well with Beef and Venison. A Cabernet Sauvignon blend which also contains Sangiovese and a dash of Cabernet Franc. 7000 cases made. "The best wine from the best vintage ever in Tuscany." W.S. Brunello di Montalcino Il Greppo 1995, Biondi-Santi
Complex stunning elegance and balance, the Brunello Greppo 1995 has attractive floral, berry and cedar aromas. Sangiovese grapes were used exclusively for this Brunello. Medium to full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a medium finish. 3330 cases made. Brunello Riserva to last, 100 years or more, as demonstrated tasting the 1891. 98 point rating.
Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 2003, Casanova di Neri
Featuring a deep ruby color with brownish hues, the Brunello Tenuta Nuova 2003 caresses the palate with plenty of silky-textured dark red cherries, plums, smoke, earthiness and sweet toasted oak. This polished modern-styled wine offers superb balance in a rich, weighty style that will find many admirers. The tannins are remarkably well-integrated, which is quite a feat in this vintage. To be sure, there isn't much of what is called varietal character here but by any definition this is a beautiful wine on an absolute level. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019. 91 point rating.
Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 2001, Casanova di Neri
Brunello Tenuta Nuova 2001 is considered the best Tenuta Nuova ever. This 97-point wine shows a mind-blowing intensity of blackberry, chocolate, and lightly toasted oak. But it's the texture that really impresses, caressing the palate with ripe, flavorful fruit and velvety tannins. Suggested food pairings are beef and venison. Wine of the Year 2006. 94 point rating.
Bolgheri Sassicaia 1998, Tenuta San Guido
Lovely, subtle yet complex, the Bolgheri Sassicaia 1998 is expertly blended with cabernet sauvignon 85%, cabernet franc 15% to produce aromas of currants, sage and green olives leading to a full-bodied red with a solid core of fruit and well-integrated tannins. Still very reserved on the finish, but those who are patient should be rewarded. Sassicaia is delicious with refined main courses featuring red meat or game. 94 point rating.
Bolgheri Sassicaia 1996, Tenuta San Guido
With a bright ruby-garnet color, the Bolgheri Sassicaia 1996 is a blend of Cabernet Franc – Cabernet Sauvignon and is well-structured with plenty of blackberry and dried herb character. The intense blackberry and cassis aromas, offset by notes of smoke and spice, are confirmed on a palate of lush concentration underscored by firm, ripe tannins carrying into a long, elegant finish. Pairs well with beef and venison.
Bolgheri Rosso Superiore Ornellaia 2001, Tenuta dell’Ornellaia
With dark ruby garnet and purple reflections, the Bolgheri Ornellaia 2001 is Incredible class, with ultrafine tannins and layers of currants, berries and lightly toasted oak. Full-bodied, yet in harmony and beauty. Beautifully sculptured and excellent length this wine goes well with rib-eye steak, Pauillac lamb and grilled steak with au poivre sauce. 93 point rating.
Bolgheri Guado al Tasso Tenuta Belvedere 1997, Antinori
Expertly blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, the Bolgheri Guado Tasso 1997 displays a dark ruby color with loads of grape, berry, mineral and violet aromas. Full-bodied, with loads of blackberry and cherry character, fine tannins and a medium finish. This gorgeous wine pairs well with beef and venison. 8000 cases made. 96 point rating.
